Roofing in Harrison Township, MI
Harrison Township fronts Lake St. Clair, and that single fact changes roofing here more than anything about the houses themselves. Anything on the water side takes wind and driving rain that a house a few miles inland simply never sees, and it takes it from the same direction every time.
3G Home Exteriors is family-owned and has worked out of Fraser since 2011. Harrison Township is a short run from the shop, which matters on waterfront work where weather windows are shorter.
Our roofing work
Completed jobs from across Macomb and Oakland counties. At the inspection we can show you work on comparable exposure.

What constant wind off the lake does to a roof
Wind damage on an exposed roof is rarely dramatic. It is cumulative, it happens on one particular elevation, and it is usually invisible from the driveway.
- The windward slope ages faster — the same roof can be sound on one side and finished on the other. Quoting from one elevation misses this entirely.
- Tabs lift and reseal repeatedly — each cycle weakens the seal strip. Eventually a tab lifts and does not go back down, and that is the one that starts the run.
- Driving rain goes uphill — water that would run off a sheltered roof gets pushed back under the shingle edge and at flashing. Starter course and edge detail matter far more here than inland.
- Salt and moisture in the air — fasteners and flashing corrode faster on the water side than the same materials a few streets back.
Repair or replace in Harrison Township
Exposure makes the repair-or-replace call harder than usual, because a roof can genuinely have ten years left on the sheltered side and be done on the windward one. We assess each elevation separately and tell you if replacing one slope is the sensible move, which it sometimes is.
Where there is a specific leak, our roof repair page covers how we trace it rather than patching where the stain appears.
Storm work on the water side
Waterfront property sees more claimable events than inland property, and it also sees more damage that a carrier will argue about. The answer to both is documentation. We photograph every elevation, note the direction of the damage, and give you an itemised scope that says what is being replaced and why.

The roof is part of the water path
On a windy site the gutter has to handle rain arriving at an angle as well as water running off the roof. Undersized gutter on an exposed elevation overflows even when it is spotless.
- Seamless gutters — sized and hung for the exposure, not to a standard
- Leaf protection — guard choice changes on a windy site, where debris arrives sideways
- Exterior drainage — high water table near the lake makes where you release water a real decision
- Siding and trim — the wall taking the same weather as the roof
Roofing questions from Harrison Township homeowners
It is the most common thing we see on the water side. The windward slope takes the weather and ages years ahead of the sheltered one. It is worth having both assessed rather than assuming the whole roof matches the bad side or the good one.One side of my roof looks much worse than the other. Is that normal here?
Sometimes, and we will say so when it is genuinely the right call. It is not always: colour match on weathered shingles is imperfect, and if the rest of the roof is within a few years of the end you would be paying for access twice. Can you replace just one slope?
Yes. On an exposed elevation the wind rating and the seal strip matter more than they do inland, and the nailing pattern matters most of all. A shingle rated for high wind that is nailed high does not perform to its rating.Does wind exposure change which shingle you would fit?
Corrosion is faster here, so we are less willing to reuse existing flashing than we might be on an inland house. On a full replacement it comes off and goes back new.Is there anything different about flashing near the lake?
