Exterior contractor in Washington Township, MI
Washington Township is the open end of Macomb County: large lots, working farmland and orchard, and subdivisions that sit in the middle of that openness rather than behind a windbreak. Houses here are exposed on all four sides.
We work out of Fraser and cover the township as part of our regular northern run. There is no travel surcharge anywhere in Macomb County.
Exposure, and what it does to a house
A house with no shelter weathers evenly and it weathers early. Every elevation gets a full share of sun, every gable end takes the wind, and wind-driven rain arrives on all four sides rather than one.
In winter the specific problem is drifting. Snow on an open lot does not settle evenly; it piles on the lee side and sits against the bottom of the wall for weeks. That is harder on the base of a wall and on the starter course than any amount of rain.

Bigger buildings, more of them
Properties here often have more than a house on them. Detached garages, pole barns and outbuildings all have roofs, gutters and walls, and they usually reach the end of their life at the same time as the house.
It is worth having all of it looked at in one visit. Mobilising once for a house and a barn costs considerably less than two separate jobs, and the detailing where an outbuilding meets a drive or a slope is worth getting right at the same time.
How we work on a rural property
Free on-site inspection of everything you want looked at, attic included on roof work, followed by an itemised written scope. Where more than one building is involved, each gets its own section so you can decide what to do now and what to leave.
Access and delivery get settled at the estimate rather than on the first morning. Long gravel drives and soft ground after rain decide where a loaded truck can reach, and that is a planning question rather than a problem.
What open exposure changes on a job
Practically, working out here differs from working in a city in ways that mostly favour the homeowner:
- Staging is easy. There is room to set up properly, which means a crew works faster and more safely than on a tight lot.
- Fastening specification matters more. Long gable ends on open ground present a large surface to the wind, on both a roof and a wall.
- Clean-up takes longer and matters more. Offcuts and fasteners travel further with no fences to stop them, and acreage is harder to search later.
- Where roof water goes is your decision, not the storm sewer’s. On a large lot there is usually somewhere sensible to take it, if it has been thought about.
- Scheduling follows the ground. Access that is fine in September is not always fine in March.
Questions from Washington Township homeowners
Do you charge extra to come this far north?
No. Washington Township is inside our regular coverage in Macomb County and there is no travel surcharge.
Can you work on a pole barn or detached garage as well?
Yes, and doing it in the same visit as the house saves a mobilisation. The detailing is simpler than a house but the same rules about fastening and exposure apply.
Snow piles against the back of my house every winter. Is that a problem?
It can be, at the bottom courses of the siding and at the starter strip. It is usually the detail underneath rather than the panel itself, and it is worth looking at specifically on a house where drifting is a known pattern.
Our driveway is long and gravel. Is delivery an issue?
Not usually, but we want to see it before material is ordered. A loaded truck on soft gravel after heavy rain is a poor start, and there is normally a straightforward alternative.
