Exterior contractor in Harrison Township, MI
Harrison Township sits on Lake St. Clair, and the water changes what an exterior has to survive. Wind arrives off open water with nothing to slow it, humidity stays higher for longer, and the canal and waterfront streets get weather that houses a few miles inland simply do not see.
We work out of Fraser, about fifteen minutes away, and the township is on our regular run.
Wind is the governing condition here
Almost everything that fails on a Harrison Township exterior fails because of wind, or because of what wind does with rain. Shingles lift on the windward slope. Siding unlocks at the gable end. Soffit gets pushed out of its channel from below. Gutters take water that arrives sideways rather than straight down.
None of that is exotic, and all of it is manageable. What it does mean is that the fastening schedule, the starter course and the edge detail matter more here than they do on a sheltered inland street, and they are exactly the things a cheap quote leaves out.

Waterfront and canal properties
Access is the first question on these lots, not the last. Seawalls, docks, narrow side yards and soft ground all decide how a job is staged, and on some properties the set-up takes longer than the work.
We would rather establish that at the estimate than discover it on the first morning. It is also why a quote produced without someone standing on the property is not worth much here.
After a storm
Serious weather off the lake brings trucks onto the street the next morning. Some of them are legitimate and some are not, and the difference is not visible from a business card.
What we do is document what we actually find and give you what an adjuster needs. What we do not do is tell you there is a claim when there is not. We are a family business with a shop in Fraser; we are not here for one season.
What to check from the ground after a blow
Before you call anyone, you can establish most of this yourself without a ladder:
- Look along each wall at a low angle. Panels that are no longer sitting flat have unlocked, even if none are missing.
- Look at the gable ends with binoculars. They are the highest and most exposed part of the wall and the hardest to see.
- Check whether any soffit has dropped out of its channel. Uplift from below is what does this, and it is one of the most common calls we get here.
- Look at the windward roof slope for lifted or missing tabs, and at the ridge, which takes the most pressure.
- Check the ground under the downspouts. Scouring there tells you water is arriving faster than the system is handling it.
Questions from Harrison Township homeowners
Is being near the lake bad for a roof or siding?
It is harder on both, mainly through wind and humidity rather than anything corrosive. Lake St. Clair is fresh water. What it demands is proper fastening, a proper starter course and edge detail, and adequate ventilation so the assembly can dry.
Some panels came off my gable. Does the whole house need doing?
Usually not. If the profile can be matched and the rest of the wall is sound, that is a repair. We would also want to know why they came off, because a fastening problem on one gable end tends to repeat.
Can you reach the water side of my house?
Usually, but how is the question. Narrow approaches, seawalls and decks change the staging, and that is a genuine part of the cost on a waterfront property. We work it out on site.
People were knocking on doors after the last storm. How do I tell who is legitimate?
Ask for a local address and check it. Ask them to show you the damage rather than describe it. And get a second opinion before signing anything, particularly anything that assigns your insurance claim to a contractor.
