Exterior contractor in Utica, MI

Older houses, and what is under them

What a tight lot means in practice
If you live on one of the older streets, this is roughly how a job will run:
- The driveway is the work area. The brake, the material and usually the dumpster. Worth planning where your car goes for a few days.
- Side elevations need staging rather than ladders. A safe ladder needs room at the base, and between two close houses there often is not any.
- A word with the neighbour helps. On several of these streets a proper set-up needs a foot or two over the line, and it is easier if they have heard about it from you first.
- Overhanging branches limit both access and delivery. Occasionally a light trim turns a four-day job into a two-day one.
- The wall facing the neighbour is usually the one in worst condition, because nobody has looked at it closely in ten years.

There is barely three feet between my house and next door. Can you still work there?
Yes. It changes the staging and it takes longer, and both of those are in the estimate rather than added later. It is normal working condition in the older part of Utica.
Will you need to go onto my neighbour’s property?

Usually it is surface growth from shade rather than damage, and it washes off. What it does tell you is that the wall is staying wet, so it is worth checking the gutter above it and the branches over it.
