Roofing in Clinton Township, MI
Clinton Township is the largest township in Macomb County and it did not grow all at once. There are post-war ranches near the older core, subdivisions from the 1970s in the middle, and builds thirty years newer towards the edges. Two houses a mile apart can need completely different roofs, which is why a phone quote here is close to meaningless.
3G Home Exteriors is family-owned and has worked out of Fraser since 2011. Clinton Township borders us, so it is short-drive work rather than a trip we build a schedule around.
Our roofing work
Completed jobs from across Macomb and Oakland counties. At the inspection we can show you something built in the same era as your own house.

Three eras of housing, three different roofs
The age of the house decides most of what we find, and Clinton Township has all three eras inside one township.
- 1950s and 60s near the older core — board decking, narrow overhangs, no ice barrier as built, and usually at least one previous covering on top
- 1970s and 80s subdivisions — plywood decking, slightly deeper soffits, and the first generation of ridge venting, often fitted without matching intake
- 1990s onward — OSB decking, more complex rooflines with valleys and dormers, and original shingles now reaching the end of their run together
What that means in practice: a quote written for your street does not transfer to the next subdivision over, and anyone giving you a per-square number without asking when the house was built is guessing.
Repair or replace in Clinton Township
On the older, simpler roofs near the core, a repair is often the honest answer and we will say so even though it is worth less to us. On the newer, cut-up rooflines further out, a patch at one valley usually buys a year rather than a decade, because the same detail is repeated in five other places on the same roof.
If it is a specific leak rather than general wear, our roof repair page covers how we trace it back to where water is getting in instead of patching where the stain appears.
Wind on the new streets, trees on the old ones
The township is wide and mostly flat, and the newer subdivisions have very little mature tree cover, so wind gets a clear run at them. The older streets have the opposite problem: large trees and decades of debris load on roofs that were never ventilated well.
After wind, hail or an ice event we inspect and photograph everything and give you an itemised scope you can hand to an adjuster. There is more on our storm damage page.
The roof is part of the water path
Where water goes after it leaves the shingles decides whether the wall, the fascia and the foundation stay dry. On a township this spread out, drainage matters as much as the roof itself.
- Seamless gutters — sized from the roof area draining into each run
- Leaf protection — worth it on the older streets, often not on the newer ones
- Exterior drainage — where the downspout releases the water
- Siding and trim — the wall the roof edge protects
Roofing questions from Clinton Township homeowners
The deck tells us as soon as a corner is lifted. Boards with gaps between them means 1950s or 60s, plywood means 1970s or 80s, OSB means 1990s onward. It matters because each one is fastened differently and each one fails differently. How do I know which era my house is from?
There is no discount for waiting and there is a real cost to it. When a whole street reaches roof age together it usually means the roofs aged the same way, so if your neighbours are finding soft decking you are likely to as well. Going early mainly means not competing for crew time in a busy autumn. My subdivision is all getting roofs at once. Should I wait?
It is part of the estimate rather than an upsell afterwards. A lot of Clinton Township houses have ridge vent with no working intake at the soffit, which is worse than no ridge vent at all. We check both and the scope says what we are doing about it.Do you fix ventilation as part of the roof?
We do. The licensed contractor pulls it and the township inspects. If someone suggests you pull it as a homeowner to save money, that moves the liability onto you rather than them.Who pulls the permit?
